Meet the New Target Audience

 Target Audience:

My new magazine will target young adults aged 16 to 25 by using celebrities above their age range whom they can conceivably aspire to be like. They will be mainly from the ABC1 demographic as they need to have enough disposable income to afford the glossy magazine and even more income to afford any of the products advertised. Vogue often advertises Samsung and Gucci whilst GQ spent $100m on advertising well-known deodorant or body wash brands such as Old Spice or expensive alcohol like Bombay Sapphire last year. These are aimed at roughly the same demographic of affluent and aspirational young people who want to become something more with brands that show off their status. My new magazine will advertise similar products which the front cover stars use and endorse so that this same demographic is attracted to buy the magazine and the products it represents.

Aside from the ABC1 demographic, the target audience will appeal to both genders to maximise the profit from a wide audience. This will be achieved through alternate male and female celebrities on every other week to attract both sides equally with celebrities they admire and want to be like. Both sides can be targeted as well in the advertising which will advertise men and women's products like Hugo Boss and L'Oréal respectively for a middle to upper-middle class audience. 

The typical audience member will be therefore male or female, 16-25 years old, employed in a high-paying job and mainstream in the sense that they seek status by using brands that everyone agrees are the best. Also, they will probably be mainstream in that they watch the films and TV shows which the front cover stars are in and follow them on social media, meaning they will be eager to read their interviews and see what they endorse.

In terms of ethnicity, the magazine will pursue diversity in the celebrities it represents to reach as wide an audience as possible and to fit with Hearst's ideology of inspiring people to become better and therefore more tolerant and celebrative of other cultures and people. In this way, diverse star power will attract a wide, younger demographic to read the magazine to achieve a higher status through branding and to see their favourite celebrities represented.
