What Are Lifestyle Magazines?

For my NEA Media Coursework, I am required to produce a lifestyle magazine for Hearst, a production company famous for these magazines: Men's Health, Women's Health, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Country Living, Harper's Bazaar and others.

What is a Lifestyle Magazine?
Lifestyle magazines are an inherent part of consumer culture as they are intended to be purchased by people with the disposable income to achieve the lifestyle which these magazines advertise. The main point of them is to introduce health, work and leisure tips to a specific demographic, centred around the status the reader can achieve if they buy what is advertised or follow the tips from interviewed celebrities. Hearst’s wide range of magazines such as Esquire, Men’s Heath and Cosmopolitan are good examples of lifestyle magazines which seek to persuade their demographic to spend more of their disposable income that they likely have on high-end, quality products or achieve a certain look physically to make them feel part of the demographic (class, gender, age, ethnicity) represented.
